The white house in Whitburn Village

The Victoria Viaduct near Fatfield

Well the person responsible for the design and construction of the viaduct lived in this very attractive house in Whitburn. The Engineer in Chief of the North Eastern Railway no less, a certain Mr Thomas E. Harrison. When he lived there he also owned the two adjoining properties, the three forming a single, very large, house in those days. Harrison was also involved, with Robert Stephenson, in the design of the High Level Bridge in Newcastle.
